BioWFReproducibility

Reproducible scientific workflows.

BioWF is the future research layer for composing scientific operations into complete, versioned and auditable studies.

Why workflows matter

A correct tool call is only one part of a scientific result.

A study also depends on the data version, configuration, software environment, sequence of operations, random seeds and evidence generated along the way.

01

Fixed protocols

Define the sequence of operations before results are interpreted.

02

Versioned execution

Record code, configuration, model and data provenance for each run.

03

Comparable experiments

Make repeated runs and baseline comparisons explicit rather than informal.

04

Auditable evidence

Keep artifacts and metrics connected to the workflow that produced them.

Workflow structure

A study can be represented as explicit stages.

The intended workflow layer describes how scientific operations can be composed. It does not claim that a general workflow engine is already implemented.

01

Define

State the scientific question, inputs and evaluation requirements.

02

Prepare

Resolve datasets, versions, metadata and required inputs.

03

Configure

Freeze model, software, parameters and execution settings.

04

Execute

Run the selected scientific operations in their declared environment.

05

Validate

Check outputs against the predefined protocol and quality rules.

06

Record

Preserve results, artifacts and provenance for later inspection.

Future direction

A reusable workflow engine for the wider bioimaging ecosystem.

Planned

General workflow composition across multiple open bioimaging applications is a future development direction. It will be presented as implemented only after it exists and is benchmarked.
